Friday Felines

Zoe has always had a problem taking care of his long hair. His mane is even longer than the rest of his fur, and he always gets a mouthful of it when he grooms.

We plan to get him a spring cut next week. He’ll get a short cut on his underside but we may leave the rest of his coat alone until we’re sure warm weather is here to stay.

  1. Zoe is quite a furry-boy. As our kitty cat Bonsai got older, he became less able to groom himself. He got quite attached to having Roger brush him several times a day. We used to call him the “brush junkie.”

    • Robin Andrea: Our Doppler, whose fur looks a lot like Zoe’s, loves to be brushed, too. If Doppler perceives that there’s even the smallest chance that Kali or I will be making a move toward the traditional brushing spot, she will let out a little “yip” and scramble over to the “brushing rug” as quickly as her legs can carry her. (It’s adorable.) We’re happy to accommodate her.

  2. Zoe is just the opposite, he hates for you to brush him and he will fight! In fact I’ve been bitten by him twice. Shots in the “butt” the first time and in the hospital the second time on an antibiotics IV drip for a week or longer. I can’t remember exactly. So of course we have to take him to a groomer.

I think it was something in his kitten world that we don’t know about. I guess he needs therapy. Oh boy…

p.s. I actually was brushing him while he was eating the first time because that’s the only way I COULD. he was also eating.Go figure…

  3. Lea: Does he then cough up hairballs after he grooms his long fur? If he did, I’d keep his coat shorter (and let him freeze!).

  4. Scott — He has had problems with hairballs. We use petroleum jelly to try to help with that. He does get a short cut in the summer.
